The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is approaching, with the first game kicking off on 20th of November when the host face Ecuador, in a change to the published match schedule.
It is hoped that the flaming summer temperatures that have pushed FIFA into the winter World Cup for the first time, will drop to manageable 30 degrees…
Major changes to the format of the competition have gained a mixed response, and UK broadcasters are amongst those forced to review their plans, so the UK coverage from from both BBC and ITV will look a little different to previous World Cup tournaments.
Both BBC and ITV have shared coverage of previous tournaments, and this is set to continue with OFCOM assuring all World Cup football is available on free-to-air TV, including streaming and 'on demand' via the iPlayer and ITV Hub services.
Previous tournaments have seen an 50/50 share of games between the two channels, with specific deals for England games. That balance of coverage is set to continue in Qatar later this year, with Wales being thrown into the mix after their well deserved playoff win over Ukraine.
